The Legion of Mary is the largest apostolic organization of lay people in the Catholic Church with well over 2 million active members in almost every country of the world nearing the 100th anniversary of this transformative ministry! It has been active in the United States since 1931, since its foundation in 1921, and has been approved by the last 7 Popes and was endorsed by the Second Vatican Council.
Through a balanced program of prayer and service in union with the Holy Spirit, as He operates through Mary, the Mother of the Church, the Legion makes its members better Catholics. Works include helping families of our parish deepen their faith and strengthen their domestic churches, street evangelization, parish visitation projects, youth work and other spiritual needs of the parish and community. It gives Catholics from 8 years and up the opportunity to do something positive for the Church while at the same time deepening their spiritual life and strengthening their Catholic faith.
Members meet together once a week for prayer, planning, and discussion in the rectory conference room; they do a couple of hours of definitive work each week in pairs and under the guidance of our Spiritual Director, Fr. Danis Ridore.
Anyone can belong to the Legion for the first three months! There is an easing in period so you can see how work or family obligations blend with the tried and proven system of the Legion. Any Catholic, young, not-so-young, single, married, retired, who would like to draw closer to Jesus and His Mother is welcome to give it a try.
How do you start? By being a guest at a meeting. You are invited to come and see the Legion from the inside. And you can go as a guest to one of our local assignments with an experienced member if you wish. You will be amazed how God will use you, provide you with the strength and ability to accomplish His works, and bless you beyond your imagination! All you will need is a willingness to sacrifice a little of your time and energy for the greatest reason in the world: your love of God.
The Legion meets every Friday morning after the 8:30 AM Mass in the Rectory Conference Room. For more information, or to join this ministry, contact Ted Vargas, at 561-276-6892 or visit our praesidium’s website here at Legion of Mary Queen of Peace.
